You should always be prudent and careful when it comes to your health. At times, being healthy and fit is taken for granted. It is only when a person is sick that they realize they should have done this, they should have done that. Thus, it is every person’s responsibility to make sure that he or she follows all the necessary precautions to prevent themselves from coming down with influenza. Here is how to prevent the flu:
Clean hands. Make a habit of always washing your hands. No, you do not need to be on an almost obsessive compulsive-level of focus and wash your hands after every single time you touch something. Just make it a point to wash your hands with soap and water before eating or bringing them up to your mouth and face.Dress properly. If you know it is a chilly day, make sure you dress accordingly. Keep warm and avoid staying out in the cold too long. Put on enough clothes to protect yourself from the weather. Make sure to wear thick socks and bring a scarf and earmuffs if it is especially frosty.Cover your mouth the right way. When you cough or sneeze, instinctively, you raise your hands to cover your mouth or nose. This is actually a mistake. By doing this, you may have stopped the bacteria from spreading, but have inadvertently covered your own hands with it. Use a tissue or hanky to cover your mouth. If you do not have any, use your elbow instead; your elbow will hardly touch anything else anyway but make sure to shower after.
The right nourishment. Drink plenty of fluids (especially fruit juices and water) and eat lots of fruits and veggies to build up a defense against the flu and other sicknesses. Cut down on the junk food and alcohol. Taking supplemental vitamins and minerals will also boost your immune system. Likewise, doing a cleanse or detoxification will help flush out and clean your body.Keep your body fit. A strong body is a healthy body and will allow you to ward of viruses and diseases better so make sure to get plenty of exercise. However, remember to rest and relax as well. This means getting the right amount of sleep. If you tire out your body, you are exposing yourself to the flu. The proper balance between, work, relaxation and rest will ensure proper health.Vaccination and medication. Getting a flu vaccine shot is very important and very effective. Consult your local physician or doctor about it.Isolation. If you have the flu, stay home and in bed to prevent it from spreading. If you know someone is sick, try and avoid that person. People with the flu should be responsible enough to know that they should not be outside putting other people at risk.
None of the tips and advice listed above sounds too difficult, and yet, every day people still suffer from the flu. Always remember that is harder to recover from the flu than to prevent it so take heed and follow the steps above to remain fit and healthy.
